I have always felt that courage was the missing competency in many leaders. Aristotle said courage is the first virtue, because it makes all other virtues possible. Most leaders know what needs to be done (or said) but are hesitant to take the necessary steps. The book gives us a clear look at how to build courage in the workplace.

Bill Treasurer was a high diver, sometimes diving from heights over 100 feet, so he knows a little something about courage. He uses his experiences to lay out a plan to help people increase courage, both in themselves and in others. His plan targets the two obstacles to acting courageously: comfort and fear.

Some takeaways you may discover:

· How to use comfort and fear to build courage.

· Identifying three types of courage- try, tell, and trust.

· A realization of how much of each type of courage you possess.

· Identify behaviors that can increase or decrease each type.

· Strategies to live a more courageous life.

As a high-ropes facilitator for 15 years, I have seen firsthand the amazing transformation that occurs when a kids or an adults finds their courage. Confidence is a force multiplier. It comes from having the courage to face down the things we fear. Confident, courageous leaders can and should inspire confidence in others by helping them try new things, speak up, and extend trust. Each time we accomplish something we thought impossible, we open ourselves up to even more possibilities.
