No leadership library would be complete without at least one book from John C. Maxwell, one of the world’s most prolific and influential leadership authors. Maxwell has written over 70 books, so it's a challenge to figure out where to start reading? I think this book is a great place to start and I hope you’ll agree.

The 5 Levels of Leadership starts at the lowest level of leadership, what Maxwell refers to as Position and encourages the reader to attain the highest level, known as Pinnacle. He gives a vivid description of each level; the upsides and downsides and strategies for how to move up to the next level. Each chapter is filled with excellent examples illustrating all aspects of the levels.

Some takeaways you may discover:

· The limits of leading by position.

· The power of clear vision and strong relationships

· Being liked is important, but it’s not nearly enough.

· Leadership credibility comes from results.

· It’s not just what you do for the company that counts.

· How your influence can expand and live beyond you.

The book clearly describes all the levels and contains a very useful self-assessment. Maxwell also connects behaviors at each level to his book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and concludes with a profile of legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden as a Level 5 Leader.

The 5 Levels of Leadership will make you think about where you are as a leader. Are you getting by just using your position? Are you focused on results? Are you committed to developing others? Maybe you’re stuck at a lower level. Wherever you find yourself, this book can help propel you up to the next level.
